The Prima Macula (Latin for "First Spot" or "First Stain"), frequently referred to simply as the Macula, is an ancient, supernatural curse that silently travels through the bloodlines of specific noble families. Far from a simple physical illness, the Macula exhibits a malicious, semi-conscious will of its own, seeking to evolve alongside its host to fundamentally reshape the world through catastrophic plagues.
📊 Historical Overview
- Known Carriers: Basilius (6th Century), Hugo de Rune (14th Century)
- Associated Symptoms: Severe verbal hallucinations, dark blackened veins, extreme fever, and crushing fatigue.
- Core Mechanics: Heralds the immediate arrival of aggressive, light-fearing rat swarms capable of forming twister-like mounds to actively extinguish light sources.
⏳ Historical Thresholds
The origins of the Macula remain shrouded in mystery, but its devastating path can be traced back to the Justinian Plague of 541 A.D.. Millennia ago, the ancient Order of Alchemists attempted to isolate and study a young Carrier named Basilius. When they cruelly locked him away from his chosen Protector, Aelia, the child succumbed to absolute despair, causing the Macula to erupt and unleash a massive wave of black death across the Roman empire.
🌑 Behavior and Progression
The Macula thrives exclusively in dark places and fundamentally despises the sun. It progresses through distinct thresholds inside the host, driven primarily by emotional trauma, stress, and anger. If a Carrier passes through the final threshold without a Protector to anchor their humanity, they completely lose their individuality to the dark entity, bringing about a world-ending event known as the Nebulae.
