Béatrice de Rune is an exceptionally accomplished alchemist, a noblewoman, and the mother of Amicia and Hugo de Rune. Her lifetime obsession with curing her family's hereditary curse drives a massive portion of the saga's early narrative.
📊 Quick Facts
- Title(s): Lady de Rune, Alchemist of the Order
- Status: Deceased (La Cuna, 1349)
- Affiliation: De Rune Family, Order of Alchemists
- Core Expertise: Advanced alchemical research, ancient texts
🔬 The Secret Laboratory
To protect Hugo from the Prima Macula, Béatrice completely isolated herself with him inside her estate's private quarters, spending years desperately brewing treatments to slow the curse. This strained her relationship with her eldest daughter, Amicia, who barely saw her mother prior to the fall of their home.
🏛️ Inquisition Captivity & Ultimate Sacrifice
During the raid on her estate, Béatrice was captured by the French Inquisition under Grand Inquisitor Vitalis. They kept her imprisoned and tortured her for months due to her profound alchemical knowledge of the Macula. After eventually being rescued by her children, she sought refuge on the Mediterranean island of La Cuna. Tragically, her journey came to an end when she was brutally sacrificed in a cult ritual orchestrated by Countess Emilie, an event that directly broke Hugo’s psyche and triggered the apocalypse.
